Intro - TSC Attending UST is an investment in your future. The Tutorial Services Center helps you protect that investment so you’re positioned for success upon graduating. We assist all UST students (undergraduate and graduate), alumni and seminarians.

Students visit for a variety of reasons. Even if you’re doing well in a subject area, there are benefits in visiting the Tutorial Services Center. You can:

Clarify general principles and concepts
Brainstorm ideas
Put the finishing touches on an assignment
Have an objective reader make useful suggestions
Get confirmation of a job well done

Tutoring is available in a variety of subjects, and each tutoring session lasts at least 30 minutes. No appointments are necessary and tutoring is free.

Who are the Tutors?

Student receiving tutoring at University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas Tutors are juniors, seniors or graduate students with:

Minimum 3.8 GPA in their area of specialty
Strong writing skills
At least two recommendations from professors

Tutors will not edit writing assignments for you. Instead, they’ll guide you through the process, pointing out problems such as unclear thesis statements, grammatical errors and weaknesses in organization and development.

You're encouraged to visit the Center at every stage of the writing process.

The TSC offers tutoring only for students currently enrolled at UST.
All students must register with their UST student I.D. prior to receiving assistance in the TSC.
Each tutoring session lasts 30 minutes. Additional time may be allotted if no other students are waiting.
Tutors will work on papers between 1-5 pages in a single 30-minute session. Longer papers are up to the tutor’s discretion and may require multiple visits.
We DO NOT proofread or edit assignments. We DO NOT do homework.
All members of the group must be present when tutoring a group assignment or project.
Conference notes describing the tutoring session are completed by the tutor following each session and sent to the course professor.
Tutees are not permitted to eat or use cell phones inside the TSC. Tutees must wear masks in the TSC.
Per the UST student handbook, we cannot assist students with take-home or final exams without express permission from the course professor.

If you have not visited the center for help with your paper on a regular basis, we will not work with you on the day your paper is due.
