Dr. Brady Knapp is Associate Professor & Chair of Music, and the Coordinator of Vocal and Choral activities at the University of St Thomas where he teaches studio voice to undergraduate & graduate music majors and conducts the University Singers. He is the Music Director for UST's Opera & Musical Theater Scenes program and he leads a weekly studio class for vocal music majors. Dr. Knapp advises UST's Master of Sacred Music and the Master of Liberal Arts (music concentration) candidates, and he oversees undergraduate and graduate vocal degree recitals. Dr. Knapp is a lyric baritone who has been featured as a soloist in recitals, oratorio, chamber music, opera and orchestral concerts all over the country. As a clinician Knapp is often invited to lead masterclasses, choral workshops, and vocal pedagogy seminars. On the collegiate level he has taught courses in Vocal Pedagogy, Art Song Literature, Diction for Singers, overseen independent studies on song cycle projects, and led special topics courses in Choral Literature & Methods. Dr. Knapp is an active church musician and conductor, and he has served as the Director of Music for Palmer Memorial Episcopal Church in Houston since 1998. The inner-generational music program at Palmer Church includes a semi-professional auditioned ensemble and has long had a national reputation for excellence. Dr. Knapp’s choral ensembles have been invited to present for several national & regional conventions including the American Choral Director's Association, Texas Choral Director's Association, American Guild of Organists, the Southwest Liturgical Conference (RC) and the Anglican Association of Musicians. Before joining the UST faculty in 2005, Dr. Knapp served on the music faculties of Rice University, Kenyon College and Sam Houston State University. Dr. Knapp's former collegiate voice students have gone on to graduate music programs at Yale, Rice, San Francisco Conservatory, Baylor, Westminster Choir College, University of Miami, Cincinnati Conservatory, University of North Texas, University of Texas, Bard College, the University of Houston and Austin Peay State University, and others. A member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing Dr. Knapp has had many student finalists for local and regional singing competitions. Knapp's students have participated in prestigious summer festivals including: Brevard, AIMS in Graz, the Franco-American Institute, Taos Opera Center, Central City, and Opera in the Ozarks. Knapp’s choral ensembles at Palmer Church and UST have been recorded professionally and are published commercially on the Gothic Records and Naxos Direct labels, and his discography has been played on NPR broadcasts.
