Title V CORE (Counseling, Outreach, Retention, and Engagement) Program

Title V Core logo 500x330 A Center of Excellence is a federally funded program designated to meet the social, emotional, and academic needs of students. By creating a positive, inclusive, and identify-safe climate for underserved students, the Title V CORE Program is a support system for freshmen and transfer students that provides success coaching and proactive counseling to aid in their college journey.

Our holistic approach to student success will break down the barriers that students face, especially those who come from disadvantaged backgrounds. This initiative is a complement to the already established resources at the University of St. Thomas, and by collaborating with different student services departments, Title V CORE program participants will be able to take full advantage of all the opportunities available to them.

Student Resources

The Title V CORE Program supports students by offering a variety of resources, including (but not limited to):

Student success coaching session
Peer mentoring session/academic support (tutoring)
Loaner materials: CORE textbooks, computers, classroom items
Computer center
Study lounge
Wrap-around services referral
Course package copy
Printing services

Faculty Resources

Undergraduate Professors may request 10 complementary copies of their course package per course. Please note, CORE classes will take priority. Submit requests below, and our team will print and deliver the course packages to your class before the semester starts. These copies aim to assist students facing financial constraints in printing materials. You have the discretion to distribute them as you deem appropriate. For any additional copies, kindly direct students to the Title V CORE Program office in the Black Lab or email us at TitleVcoreprogram@stthom.edu.

Faculty Success Leaders

Additional resources are available for faculty who want to learn more on how to better serve our students. Our train-the-trainer approach is designed to influence the teaching culture and provide more up-to-date education with a catholic foundation.

Each academic year, five faculty members are selected to learn more about theory-based practices and how we, as a campus, owe our students to be the best in the industry and lead by example. After receiving their training(s), faculty will then lead their own workshops to teach other adjunct and faculty on the importance of progressive education.

Training will cover the following areas:

Cultural awareness
Cultural assets
Belonging
Embodiment
Growth vs. fixed mindset

Faculty success leaders will receive a stipend compensation for receiving and giving the trainings to other faculty members. Each faculty success leader will receive support and materials to provide the training, with logistics handled by the Title V CORE team. Each faculty success leader will also be responsible for bringing at least 10 other faculty members (full time and/or adjuncts) into the program (the Title V CORE team will also assist in the recruitment process.) Compensation for participants is dependent on Department of Education approval.
